Friday, 11 June 2010 08:42

According to Sub-Secretary Liliam Kechichián at the Ministerio de Turismo y Deporte (Ministry of Tourism and Recreation), 910.597 tourists visited Uruguay during the first four months of 2010.  They stayed an average of 9 days, and spent a total of US $744 million, averaging US %817 per person.

Kechichián pointed out that the Worldwide Organization of Tourism recently signed an agreement with the Themis Foundation of Spain and the Instituto de la Empresa de Madrid.  Beginning this month, they will come to study this phenomenon in Uruguay, where tourism is growing in spite of the economic crisis. This is important for us because the results will be published in international circles.

Taleb Rifai, Secretary General of the Worldwide Organization of Tourism, recently visited Uruguay, recognizing the growth.  During his visit, he vowed the support of his organization.
