Coca Cola Union Remains in Conflict

Tuesday, 13 October 2009 00:00

The Coca Cola workers’ union has decided to hold a partial strike on Friday. Today, union leaders will meet with the Ministry of Labor.

The conflict stems from the company’s decision to hire outsourced personnel for a new bottle blowing machine at the Montevideo Refrescos plant. The union wants to train the company's own employees to operate the new equipment.

This Friday from 9am to 1pm, union workers will hold a strike at the entire plant. Richard Read, who chairs the union said, "both at Pilsen and Nix, there are bottle blowing machines and they are being run by the factories’ own staff,” he said.
