The Criminal Judge of 2nd shift, Mariana Motta, sentenced Juan María Bordaberry to 30 years in prison on charges of assault against the Constitution, nine crimes of enforced disappearance and two murders particularly aggravated.
In the first case he was sentenced as an author, blaming him for the coup in June 1973, and in the other two as co-author. In addition to 30 years of imprisonment he was sentenced to 15 years of security measures, eliminative and disqualification for six years meeting the costs of imprisonment.
Finally the sentence to Juan María Bordaberry was known, after passing through a process that demanded seven years from the filing of the complaint by Hebe Martinez Burlé with Dr. Walter De Leon and 1,500 citizens who supported this initiative.
This sentence of imprisonment to Bordaberry, currently serving 30 years in prison and security measures for the murder of 14 people, means for Hebe Martinez Burle, an "enormous symbol for our country." She stressed that this process, confirmed in Uruguay, is unusual in the world where dictators are processed by corruption or other crimes, but not specifically to give a coup. For Martinez Burle, this positions Uruguay as an example of democratic tradition.
