Three thousand people were evacuated due to floods around the country. Artigas and Salto are the most affected departments with 1700 and 700 evacuees, respectively.

Presidential officer, Victor Tonto, who works for National Emergency, said that on Wednesday two accounts will be created to receive donations from Uruguay and from other countries around the world, one will be in Uruguayan pesos and the other one in dollars, to help those affected by the floods.

"We want to encourage donations, and to coordinate them with the National Emergency System, to extend what is received to the relief of the victims. We don’t want logistic movements to be complicated by new elements, he said. The situation could be worse, the weather forecast announced heavy rains, possible hail, winds ranging from 75 to 120 kilometers per hour and strong electrical activity.
