On Wednesday, the Sports Department of the “Intendencia Municipal de Montevideo” (IMM: Montevideo’s City Council) announced the 2009-2010 summer plan for the country’s capital.

The announcement pointed out that Montevideo is the only capital which beaches are 100% certified and complying with such certification year after year. According to Gonzalo Haity, IMM Sports Department Director, in very hot days of the high season, around 300,000 people visit the seaside. Mr. Haity highlighted the low accidents rate and assured that more than 180 lifeguards will be on duty, properly distributed in 30 locations along the beaches. (Espectador, November 4th, 2009)
