Higher Rents

The average rent in Montevideo increase about 200 Uruguayan pesos per month. The information is taken from a measurement made by the National Statistics Institute based on data from several offices and agencies to determine how prices evolve in pesos and dollars in sales transactions of properties in horizontal property regime in Montevideo and the amount of purchases made.

The average price per square meter of real estate in Montevideo increased by 3.3% in pesos and 4.2% in dollars from May to July this year compared with the same quarter last year. The number of purchases and sales in the quarter from May to July 2009 increased 11.2% over the previous quarter and down 20.3% over the same quarter of 2008.

In July, average rental contracts stood at 6140 Uruguayan pesos per month, while in July the average monthly rental price was about 5900 pesos. Referring to July 2008, rents rose 11% in July this year.
