The ceremonies will begin at 13:50 in the Legislative Palace, when Jose Mujica and Vice President-elect Danilo Astori, arrive to Parliament to pledge allegiance to the Constitution before the General Assembly. Then, Mujica will give a 40-minute speech. The handover ceremony will begin about 17 hours at the Independence Square in front of the monument to national hero Jose Artigas and facing to 18 de Julio Street. After receiving the presidential sash, Mujica will officially appoint his ministers, will speak and greet visiting delegations. The activity will end with an artistic show.
This Sunday in a meeting with journalists from around the world, Mujica said: "I still dream of a socialist and less selfish society." He also said he feels a "peasant farmer from soul." The president-elect showed its determination to end indigence and reduce poverty by half.
The future president urged government to pursue a "ripe" for joint agreements with the opposition and also addressed the stereotypes that sidestepped the Uruguayan society to entrust the presidency. "We, men who are conservatives, often stay with photos and find it hard to see the movie, but my compatriots did not stay with the stereotype of the guerrilla, although we like tango and nostalgia."
This weekend, Mujica participated in his last supporter act at the launch campaign of Ana Olivera to the Municipality of Montevideo and Marcos Carámbula to Canelones. The president-elect said goodbye Saturday militancy and said that on Monday begins a "tremendous historical responsibility" for him and the Frente Amplio.
