Before a full auditorium in the Executive Tower, Vazquez, relaxed and in good humor, took time to submit personal considerations and answer questions from the press. So much, that in the instance-organized in connection with the presentation of the book "Uruguay being in the world" - the outgoing president reflected on his administration of government and about his future plans. "I cannot believe that five years of government passed already," reflected on Tuesday President Tabaré Vázquez, newly arrived from Mexico and a few days apart from completing its mandate. "I am leaving neither with nostalgia nor euphoria," he said.
Vazquez said he found "excellent" the negotiations began by Jose Mujica with the opposition to integrate public organisms and renewal of comptroller organizations. He recognized he failed in that matter. "It would help bring about change in organizations of comptroller, which we could not do ourselves. I did not succeed in dialogue with the opposition. I'm sure now we are going to move ahead. I wish success to my fellow Mujica in their management, "he added.
On relations with Argentina and the binational dispute over the installation of Botnia in Fray Bentos, said: "Uruguay took the right path for the defense of sovereignty". He expressed confidence that an agreement will be achieved and recalled that it was important to await the opinion of the ICJ in The Hague. "The positive thing is that it keeps the relationship between the countries," he said.
Vazquez, later in the afternoon yesterday, inaugurated the Center for Technology and Social Inclusion ", located in the complex of LATU to centralize all Ceibal Plan activities and programs of Oral and Ocular Health in Public Schools. There, the president called to "reflect" on the criticism that these plans - regarded as "flagships of his administration - have received in recent years from different fields.
With respect to the Plan Ceibal, the president recalled, without naming anyone, the questions of the opposition to free computer handling. He noted that technical aspects have been criticized not noticing his goal. "When children in our public schools had no computers and children from families that if they could buy computers, have them, these voices were not heard. To criticize the evil or harm to the drawbacks that a child has a computer "he said. "Only when the government appeared, the Uruguayan State, all Uruguayans did get a computer at the hands of every child in the country. Some, who had never seen a computer, rather than suddenly, in a publication or advertising, "he added. The president asked to analyze the "heart" of Ceibal Plan, which he described as the intention of generating opportunities and greater equality for all children.
Vazquez also mentioned the recent discussion about what area should operate Oral Health and Occupational Programs. These programs were placed through a decree in the orbit of the Presidency of the Republic, prompting discussions with Jose Mujica from MPP, who sought to place them into the Ministry of Public Health. Vazquez said he did not understand this argument, saying that what matters is not where you work but that they work.
Vazquez said that a government, beyond being left or right, should be humane and should stand with the people.
Also, the president participated in the LATU inauguration of a "Special Unit Irradiation" for food for export, and a Virtual Simulation System Lead, used for carrying cargo and passengers.
