Former Industry Minister and current Socialist Party Senator, Daniel Martínez, said the Frente Amplio is the best in all areas and the Nacional and Colorado parties are “an old model of pure discourse, of talking about modernity and being nearly feudal when administering policy”.
Martinez criticized the current system of runoff elections, which allows "someone with 29% of the vote" to become president, in a reference to the Nacional Party, which was supported by its historic rival, the Colorado Party, to compete in the second round.
The senator also noted that the National Party candidate, former President Luis Alberto Lacalle, is "rejected" by 70% of the population, since he "creates distrust in many, especially the issue of values."
