PIT-CNT failed to conduct a second 24-hour general strike in support of the state workers. The private workers of PIT-CNT said that a second strike would be excessive. They sided with President Mujica in his stance related to the public workers.
COFE spokesperson Gustavo Signorele said “Hopefully the private workers will receive the benefits being sought by the public workers. So far we have not received the salary increase we expect, but now the government has offered it. The private workers have been asking for the same increase, but have not yet received it. They need to be more responsible, keep personal feelings out of the equation, and respect people a little more”.
Public workers are seeking a salary increase, resolution of inequitable pay situations, and participation in the parliamentary budget reform discussions, among other things.

The Independent Party filed a complaint with the Executive Committee of the Colorado Party yesterday regarding their exclusion from the celebrations related to the 25 years of democracy. The celebrations commenced on Monday with a gathering of all five presidents who have been elected since the dictatorship ended in 1985.
The Independents pointed out that it is unfair that a celebration for democracy excluded a political party with parliamentary representation. The Colorado Party responded that the Independent Party has not existed for over 25 years, and did not participate in the proceedings that led to the overthrow of the dictatorship.
