The new U.S. ambassador to Uruguay, David Nelson, said that between the government of Barack Obama and Jose Mujica, there will be good opportunities to promote the exchange of investment in sectors such as livestock, forestry and agricultural production.
Nelson, after presenting his credentials to President Tabaré Vázquez yesterday, took office today. At a news conference, predicted a "good relationship" between the two countries. The diplomat also called for strengthening trade through the TIFA and improving cultural and sporting relations.
Nelson avoided commenting on the political and commercial links between Uruguay, Venezuela and Iran, which have been strengthening.
"One of the most important things Uruguay means, is the example of a democratic, stable country, where elections are respected, besides respecting the press, respecting the legal system, it is a country of laws and a democratic country and gives a very positive example which is important in the region and worldwide. Uruguay gives an example of a democratic country and is seeking to promote shared economic growth where there are opportunities for everyone " the diplomat said.
