20% of Montevideo Citizens Have Lung Diseases

Yesterday, the International Day of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) was celebrated. Montevideo is the city from the region with higher caseloads. 20% of Uruguayans have lung disease. A tent was set up in Plaza Cagancha, where information was disclosed and preventive studies were made to those who requested them.

The pulmonologist, Alejandra Rey, said one aims is to combat smoking, which is strictly against the prevalence of COPD. Dr. Rey said that to prevent the disease it is necessary to stop smoking, prevent infections and do exercise. She also said that the National Resources Fund gives patients medication for halting the work. The most important thing is the will to stop smoking.
