Industrial Exports Became More Expensive for the First Time in 11 Months

The price of exports by the industrial sector reported an initial increase in January compared to the same month last year, after holding 11 consecutive months of falls.
According to a study released on Wednesday by the Economic Research Department of the Chamber of Industries (CIU), the price index of industrial placements increased 2.5% in the first month of the year compared with January 2009. From the previous month, average prices rose 1.4%. "In January, almost all industrial groups showed increases in their export prices compared to December, with the exception of chemicals and plastics, and metal products, machinery and equipment," the report said.
At the level of total economy, export prices rose 1.9% over the same period last year, while over December the price increase was 1.4%.
