Highway Patrol Strengthens Controls in High Season

Wednesday, 23 December 2009 10:18

Under the name "Safe Passage" Highway Patrol will seek to reduce accidents on domestic routes. During the high season, the Highway Patrol's administrative staff will provide support of troops operating on domestic routes, especially on weekends during January and February.

Sergio Olivera, press officer for Highway Patrol, said there is also greater coordination with the mayor and Traffic Police. To strengthen the service, Highway Patrol staff holidays were suspended from 15 December to 28 February.

190 traffic policemen work in "Operation Safe Passage" on weekdays and 220 for each weekend.
