It is still unknown what Feldman was up to with his arsenal

Tuesday, 03 November 2009 00:00

Accountant Saúl Feldman’s case remains unsolved. According to the authorities’ statement, the man who died in a shooting in his own house in Shangrilá (Canelones) after killing a policeman and wounding two had neither political nor religious affiliation. The said house had an armored room, where 700 weapons were found, some not even used by the army.

Among the weapons found, there were guns, revolvers, gunpowder, 40 thousand ammunition and war riffles of several kinds, including five FAL that belonged to the Uruguayan army and various M2 which presumably were stolen from the army.

The police force believes that Feldman was about to send a weapon load to Brazilian drug dealers. Gold ingots were also found in another of Feldman’s properties. About this case, Jorge Díaz, judge specialized in organized crime, will meet investigators of the Dirección Nacional de Información e Inteligencia (local Intelligence Agency) on Tuesday.

He will also meet some members of the Secretaría Nacional Antilavado (Anti-Laundering National Secretary), the DGI (Inland Revenue), and the Central Bank.
