Hotel Industry Denounces Credit Card Companies

Wednesday, 21 October 2009 00:00

The Center for Hotels in Punta del Este and Piriápolis has filed a complaint against credit card issuers to the Competition Commission at the Ministry of Economy and Finance. The groups believes the credit card companies are abusing a situation of dominance.

The hotel industry is opposed to the 7% commission charged by card issuers for each transaction.

The card companies, in turn, will not negotiate with the group of hotels. However, they are willing to negotiate with each hotel individually.
